Where Canadian
Indie Cinema Lives

A one-day celebration of raw, bold, and unapologetically independent filmmaking — held inside the uniquely intimate Morpheus Clinic of Hypnosis.

Yeah, we're doing this.

The Canadian Independent Art Film Festival is exactly what it sounds like — a festival for indie films that actually have something to say. No blockbuster money, no studio polish. Just filmmakers who gave a damn and made something real.

We're running this June 19th at the Morpheus Clinic of Hypnosis — because honestly, what better place to screen art films than somewhere that messes with your perception of reality? It fits perfectly.

This is a space for short films, experimental work, documentaries, personal projects — anything that pushes against the mainstream. Canadian directors, Canadian stories, Canadian voices. That's the whole point.

We keep the vibe tight, the audience engaged, and the conversations flowing after the screenings. Expect drinks, debate, and a genuine celebration of the weird and wonderful.

The Awards

We hand out awards that actually mean something. Our jury is made of practicing filmmakers, artists, and people who genuinely love cinema — not committee members checking boxes.

🏆
Grand Prize

Best Canadian Independent Film

The top honour. Goes to the film that knocked us sideways — the one we kept talking about after the credits rolled. Full stop, best film of the night.

Grand Prix
🎬
Direction

Best Director

For the person who had a vision and actually pulled it off. Doesn't matter if you shot it on a phone or rented gear — it's all about command of the story.

✍️
Writing

Best Screenplay / Script

Words matter. This one goes to films where the writing is doing real work — dialogue that crackles, structure that surprises, ideas that linger.

🎭
Performance

Best Performance

Acting in indie films is a different kind of courage. This award recognizes a performance that felt completely, uncomfortably real.

🎞️
Craft

Best Cinematography

For films that look like they were made by someone who thinks in images. Whether moody and dark or bright and restless — if the camera told the story, this one's yours.

🧪
Experimentation

Best Experimental / Art Film

We love the weird stuff. This award is specifically for films that broke genre, broke convention, broke our brains a little — in a good way.

📖
Storytelling

Best Documentary Short

For docs that feel alive. Not narrated slideshows — actual documentary filmmaking that puts you in the room with something true.

Special Award

Audience Choice Award

The crowd picks this one. No jury, no criteria — just the film that the room responded to the most. Sometimes the most important vote is the gut one.

Special Award

Best First Film

Everyone starts somewhere. This award is for debut filmmakers who showed up with a first project and made us forget it was their first.
